Scotland Environment Strategy Consultation Response

AEnvCoW added its name to Scottish Environment LINK’s response to the Scotland Environment Strategy 2025 Consultation, submitted on 29 September 2025.

The response welcomes the Scottish Government’s ambition to tackle the nature, climate and pollution crises but highlights that while the rhetoric and understanding of the threats are strong, implementation remains weak. The draft Strategy fails to analyse why current policies are not working and does not identify the actions needed to close key gaps in delivery.

LINK’s response calls for urgent focus on rebuilding ecosystem resilience, integrating land, freshwater and marine management, addressing drivers such as invasive non-native species, and recognising emerging issues such as light pollution. It also stresses the need for stronger environmental governance, including compliance with the Aarhus Convention and the establishment of an Environment Court, to ensure Scotland’s environmental strategy delivers in practice as well as in principle.
