The Association of Environmental Clerks of Works (AEnvCoW), in collaboration with the Institute of Environmental and Sustainable Professionals (ISEP), is pleased to announce the publication of Environmental Clerks of Works: Industry Guiding Principles for Developments. Developed to support greater consistency, clarity and professionalism across the sector, the guiding principles set out core expectations for effective environmental compliance monitoring throughout development and construction projects. The publication marks an important step towards strengthening professional practice and improving environmental outcomes by promoting clear roles, robust governance and collaborative delivery.

Working with Planning Democracy to Improve EnvCoW Planning Conditions

Stakeholder Update: Scottish Government Consultation

We were delighted to participate in Scottish Government consultation last week regarding environmental governance. We have supported it’s proposal to establish an environmental court, which we believe would enhance environmental governance and help drive up environmental compliance and outcomes. A critical element to this is monitoring data, and the role of an Environmental Clerks of Works, which we are promoting and defining with Government Agencies and other stakeholders.

RSPB – Stakeholder Engagement Update

We were delighted to meet the RSPB again on the 26th May. We discussed several items of mutual interest, including:

– Parliamentary Questions
– Planning conditions for EnvCoWs
– Construction  / temporary assessments of EIAs & RSPBs responses to them 
– Drafting Industry Guiding Principles for EnvCoWs
– Environmental Outcome Reports
– Potential areas of research that both AECoW & RSPB would support (namely to build an evidence base & highlight the need for robust EnvCoW roles and responsibilities, guidance and related regulatory reform to drive up environmental compliance).
